This week we’re joined by our old friend Tom de Lorenzo for the first of two parts on the state and religion. We consider how religion and government share the common thread of convincing people to submit themselves to a ruler, be it a state official, a deity, or in some cases both.

We also consider if religion is the driving force behind wars around the world or just a coincidental part of it.
